Posting a Video Response on You Tube

How To Post A Powerful Video Response On The "New" You Tube

Note*  Since You Tube's recent revisions to their site, video responses are no longer as effective as they once were.  You Tube used to display the four latest video responses under a video allowing you to create a video with an attractive thumbnail to get more exposure to your videos.  Now a user must know how to get to the list of video responses of a particular video making this technique not nearly as powerful as it used to be.

Posting a video response on a popular You Tube video is a great way to get views from people already interested in your video.  if you post a response to a video about cats, and your video is about race cars, you are not going to get many views.  So, now you have a little understanding about where I am going with this, lets get to the basics.

Here are the five key elements you want to look for when posting a video response.

  • How many views the video has
  • When was the video posted
  • Is the video owner accepting all responses
  • When was the last comment posted
  • Who owns the video

The idea with selecting a video to respond to is finding one that is going to get lots of views, yes.  But, most importantly, you don't want to have to do maintenance on it too often.

If a video has a million views, posted in 2006, I would not want to post a response to it.  There are better videos to respond to.  You just have to look.  A video with a million views posted last week, is a keeper.  If the video has tons of responses on a You Tube star's video, I wouldn't want to post to that one either.  Too many people are posting responses, and it will be bumped out of sight within half of a day. Finding a video to respond to can take 2 hours easy.  But, once you find it, you can soak up views for 2 weeks on that one video.

If after you post the response, you should see a message saying, "You Response was Successful!"

If it adds, "it will be posted upon the video owner's approval" i would look for another.  On the other hand, waiting for those to be approved will stay up longer and require less maintenance, but you might have to wait a week for the video owner to accept or decline the response.

After you upload a video, scroll down on the edit page to video responses, and select allow all responses.  When other people respond a video to yours, your video gets put on their related video list which gets views from their also.  Here is all of the information on posting a video response on You Tube along with all of the terms and conditions.
