Social Networking and You Tube

Social Networking for You Tube Optimization -  FaceBook or Twitter?

Posted April 1st, 2010 by: John Wright

Social Networking for You Tube and web site optimization is the most ever-evolving thing on the internet today.  The power is there, but you have to build a following before you can tap into its real potential.  Twitter is slowly becoming a place for marketeers and is crowded with hookers, but a view is a view.  If your video about how to turn a bar of soap into a pizza strikes the interest of marketeers, let them watch it.  How many times have you decided to watch a video based on how many views it had?  So, you see, the more views you have, the more you can get.  I will talk about video responses later but, when a video has a lot of views, people will post a video response to it in order to get views from you which places your video on their related video list, therefore getting you views from there also.

To build a following on Twitter, look for other related people to follow.  You can only follow 2000 before Twitter makes you wait for your followers count to catch up.  But you will get about 6 or 8 followers a day.  Within a year, you will be able to follow about 2000 more.  If you have a web site, offer people the opportunity to follow you.  Even if they don't read your tweets with a link to your videos, Twitter will let you follow more and therefore putting your ATTRACTIVE avatar on other people's followers lists.

MySpace allows you to embed your video in a comment of your friends.  Getting celebrities to be your friend and then posting your video on their comment section will get you a lot of views, but it will certainly be short-lived.  Do you know how many people post comments to celeb MySpace sections a day?  It don't hurt, but it won't help as much as some people may think.  Instead, build a following, like on Twitter, with as many people and be consistently active with as many as you can.  Their friends will watch the video within their comments.

MySpace has been the popular social network for ages, and has been replaced with FaceBook.  Same concept, just they spent more on advertising, and took over.  Here you have to be careful about how many walls you post links to.  The way to go is to, once again, build a following, and limit your posting to about 5 a day.  You want to post on walls of popular people that are not celebrities getting spammed to deaf.  The spammers will bump your video out of sight with in minutes on a celebrities wall.

FaceBook is dominating the social networking side of things as far as popularity and traffic is concerned.  If you are promoting your music, MySpace would be the place to start.  With FaceBook, you can develop a following much faster an effectively than Twitter.  The key is to friend people who get lots of traffic to their wall.  You can get an idea of this by counting how many people post things on their wall.  If he has a 5000 friends and he is the only one posting on his wall, what's the point?  He is the only one who will see your link.  You also have to respect the fine line between spam and "being a part of the community."  Don't just go around posting links like crazy.  Interact with people.  Comment on their posts every now and then.  If you post a link on their wall and they roll their eyes at it, that is fine.  If they report you as spam and have your account terminated, then it was all for nothing, right?
